As Teen Mom Talk Now previously reported, MTV aired footage of Javi showing off an engagement ring that he bought. “Briana really loves me and I see that,” Javi says, revealing the ring intended for his girlfriend of a few months.
In the next moment, his friend states the obvious: “Javi, you’re moving way too quick.” When her mom broke the news of the potential engagement to Briana, she had trouble getting Briana to take it seriously and even told her, “For real!” Roxanne clearly just wanted what is best for her daughter, telling her, “If you feel in your heart that it’s really going well with Javi, you have to let me know.” Though she made it clear that Briana’s feelings were important, Roxanne was pragmatic about the nature of their relationship. She reminded Briana, “The odds are stacked against you guys.”

After watching her daughter struggle through break-ups with the fathers of her children, Luis Hernandez and Devoin Austin, it is understandable why she wanted Briana’s relationship with Javi to be different. However, instead of empathizing over the difficulty of the spotlight, Javi brought his own drama to Briana’s life. Roxanne refused to shy away from the reality of the situation when speaking with her daughter about a potential engagement with Javi. She reminded Briana, “He has baggage, you have baggage.” It was left unsaid that neither Javi nor Briana travels particularly light. In addition to her baby daddies and his ex-wife Kailyn, Javi and Briana have three children between them: his son, Lincoln, and her daughters Nova and Stella. Briana’s mom was kind, yet firm, about the challenges facing the couple. She reminded Briana, “It’s not easy: different states, MTV, Teen Mom , his past relationships, and he’s going away, right?”
